Learner versus Learned

Most people miss out the difference between a Learner and a Learned.

Who would you rather be?

I made my choice a long time back. I prefer to be a life-long learner than being a learned.

Like Success, learning is not a destination. It is a life-long journey that continues till we die. Many people who are labelled as learned stop learning and this causes them to be not so learned anymore.

Being labelled an expert or guru can cause us to develop blind spots and most importantly kill our ability to be intellectually curious. We are likely to become intellectually lazy and miss out on the change that is happening right in front of us. The real learned know how much they do not know or how much there is to learn. They do not pretend to know everything. They know the learned formula.

Learned = Being a Lifelong Learner

When the internet first came, how many were learned enough to spot the opportunity. How many of us could see all the use cases of the internet? After all, it was used for gambling, and porn.

How many of us could see the real power of the internet to transform the way commerce happens or the power of the social network?

How many could see the mobile revolution?

How many can see the Crypto and DeFi (Decentralized Finance) revolution happening right under our feet today? Most importantly how many will try and learn.

The intellectually curious certainly will.

Alvin Toffler wrote this long agost “The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn and relearn.

Be curious and keep learning.
