Which Questions Are You Asking?

Amar Pandit , CFA , CFP

Most investors spend their lives asking the wrong questions.

Is this the right time to invest?
Which investment will give me the best returns?
Where is the market headed next?

These are the questions we are conditioned to ask.
They sound smart.
They feel relevant.
They give us the illusion of control.

But they rarely lead to clarity.
Instead, they lead to confusion, overanalysis, and poor decisions.
Because they are focused outward.
They are rooted in prediction.
And investing, at its core, is not a game of prediction.

It is a game of alignment.
It is a game of purpose.

The better questions lie within.
Why is my money invested the way it is?
Why am I investing at all?
How much is enough?
What is the purpose of my wealth?

These are not questions a stock tip can answer.
These are questions only you can.
Because they are not about the market.
They are about your life.
And when investing decisions are aligned with your life, your chances of success go up dramatically.

Think of a great doctor.
They don’t begin treatment by asking, “What’s the most popular medicine right now?”
They start by asking the right diagnostic questions.
What is causing the symptoms?
What is the patient’s history?
What outcome are we aiming for?

In investing too, diagnosis must come before prescription.
And diagnosis begins with deep, personal questions.

It’s tempting to look for shortcuts.
But the real shortcut is this: ask better questions.
Because when the question is right, the answer becomes easier.

Investing success is not a matter of timing the market.
It is not even about choosing the best product.
It is the outcome of asking the right questions.
Start there.
And you will be miles ahead of most investors.
